1934(P) is fairly common in all grades through the lower levels of mint state. Choice and gem examples are not always available.
The strike on most seen is not as sharp as for other P-Mint issues of the 1930s, and the quality of luster varies from good to excellent.
This was the first coinage of nickels at the Philadelphia Mint since 1930. Economic recovery was still more of a hope than a reality, but spending by the federal government made up part of the deficiency in the commercial sector.
Varieties: A doubled-die reverse was discovered by Leroy and Marilyn Van Allen and published in Coin World some years ago.
