The postmark of October 16, 2000 in Richmond, the capital of Virginia, marks the day the first Virginia quarters were released to the Federal Reserve Bank and to the public. The Virginia quarter honors Jamestown, Virginia, our nation's first permanent English settlement. Jamestown turns 400 years old in 2007. The design features the three ships, Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery that brought the first English settlers to Jamestown.
