The 1988 Olympic Commemorative Silver Dollar was issued to represent the participation of the United States in the 1988 Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea. The commemorative coin program included a silver dollar and $5 gold coin.

The obverse of the silver dollar features one hand holding the Olympic torch and a second hand holding another torch to ignite it. The reverse of the coin shows the the five Olympic rings bordered by a wreath.

The obverse inscriptions include "Olympiad", "In God We Trust", "Liberty", and the date "1988" and mint mark. The reverse inscriptions read "United States of America", the denomination "1 Dollar", "USA", and "E Pluribus Unum".

The uncirculated version of the coins was minted at the Denver Mint and carried the "D" mint mark. The proof version was minted in San Francisco and carried the "S" mint mark. Two coin sets containing the silver dollar and $5 gold were issued in proof and uncirculated, as well as a four coin set with all versions.
