The Mint restored mintmarks (removed after 1964) and placed them on the obverse of the coin behind Washington’s ribbon queue. Proofs were also reinstated this year and minted entirely in the San Francisco Assay Office (the old Mint office) which mints, packs and distributes all proof coinage to this day.
