Record mintages for nickels were set in this and the following year, as the American economy boomed. The five-cent piece enjoyed far greater utility in 1906 than it does today, opening the door to countless items, services and entertainments.

Minor re-punchings of the date abound, as so many dies were needed to produce this huge mintage. These varieties are too minor to elicit general interest.
