The Mint resumed the 1974 reverse design and continues to strike these today. The West Point branch of the mint continued making quarters through 1979, however, there is no way to distinguish these from the Philadelphia issues since no mintmark was added.
Varieties:
- 1977-D. Struck on silver-clad planchet left over from 1976. Breen considers this the “single great rarity†of the 1977-1986 period. (Breen-4457)
- 1977-S Proof. Very thin motto. Result of die over-polishing. Breen estimates that it forms a tiny fraction of all proofs of this year. (Breen-4455)
