Another record was set for cent production in 1917, as America entered the Great War. The economy was in overdrive, and the imposition of wartime emergency taxes further added to the demand for minor coins.
This issue is readily available across a broad span of grades, and even fully red gems are attainable without too much searching. Well worn examples still turn up in circulation from time to time, if the reports of coin publication readers are to be believed.
