In 2005 for the 230th Anniversary of the United States Marine Corps., the U.S. Mint issued their very first coin to commemorate one of the branches of the armed services! Two .900 fine Silver Dollars were issued…an Uncirculated and Proof edition, both made at the Philadelphia Mint. The U.S. Mint issued 600,000 coins between the two types (548,810 proofs and just 49,671 uncs)...within a couple of weeks they were sold out!

The obverse design of this coin depicts the historic flag raising on Iwo Jima, while the reverse design proudly displays the Marine Corp Emblem alongside their motto ‘Semper Fidelis.’

Along with these special silver dollars, the United States Mint decided to make a special collectors pack honoring the Corps distinctive service to our great nation. This special limited edition set contained the rarer uncirculated version of the Marine Corps Silver Dollar as well as a 1945 three-cent Iwo Jima Stamp.

The Mint limited the mintage of these sets to just 50,000 making it one of the rarest special edition releases in U.S. Mint history!
