Circulated examples of the 1888 cent are common across all grades. Mint State pieces, however, are a bit scarcer than for other dates of similar mintage, and gems are truly rare. Also an issue for this date is weakness of strike.
Numerous die-punching varieties are found on 1888 Indian Head Cents. Perhaps the most desirable variety in the Indian Head series, the 1888/7 overdate is very rare in any grade approaching Mint State. It is widely sought by both series specialists and general variety collectors.
