The 1968 Kennedy Half had a composition of 40% silver, continuing the silver clad composition for the half dollar denomination. The use of mint marks was resumed after a three year absence. All circulating coins minted for this year were struck at the Denver Mint and carried the “D” mint mark.
Also, this year regular proof coins returned. The coins were minted at the San Francisco Mint and carried the “S” mint mark. The previous proof coin issued in 1964 had been minted at the Philadelphia Mint.
