The 1987 Constitution Commemorative Silver Dollar was issued to celebrate the bicentennial of the United States Constitution, which took place in 1787.

The silver dollar coin featured sheets of parchment and a quill pen on the obverse. The first three words of the U.S. Constitution "We the People" are featured centrally. The reverse of the coin features an assemblage of Americans, to represent various lifestyles throughout American history.

The obverse inscriptions include "U.S. Constitution 200th Anniversary", "In God We Trust", "We the People", "Liberty" and the dual dates of "1787" and "1987". The reverse inscriptions read "E Pluribus Unum", "United States of America" and the denomination written as "Dollar 1".

The proof coins were minted at the San Francisco Mint and the uncirculated coins were minted at the Philadelphia Mint. The silver dollars were offered individually, or as part of a two coin or four coin set.
