The right facing profile represents his two terms served as President. The left facing profile represents his service as a five-star General. The reverse of the coin depicts Eisenhower's retirement home in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, which is now a national historic site.
The obverse inscriptions of the coin include "Eisenhower Centennial", "Liberty", "In God We Trust", and the dual date "1890-1990". The reverse inscriptions include "United States of America", "Eisenhower Home", "E Pluribus Unum" and "One Dollar".
The Eisenhower Silver Dollar was offered in proof and uncirculated versions with a maximum authorized mintage of 4 million coins. The uncirculated version of the coin was produced at the West Point Mint and the proof version at the Philadelphia Mint. Coins were sold individually, with the proof version also available in the 1990 Prestige Proof Set.
